When Bockholmengruppen in Stockholm took over a historic restaurant in the Old Town—most notably Le Rouge—Lobby Design and I were given the privilege of collaborating with them to develop a new interior concept and graphic identity. The previously red restaurant was transformed into two shades of blue. One section of the floor became a beautifully classic oak herringbone, meeting an area of patterned marble. We carried the wooden flooring up onto the wall to create warmth and a more intimate atmosphere. To divide the space in depth on the second floor, we introduced two custom-designed arrangers, creating distinct rooms within the room. The existing sofas were shortened, rebuilt, and reupholstered in cognac-coloured leather. To bring dynamism to the interior, we created clusters of varied furniture constellations. We also designed a unique small corner sofa for intimate dining. The herringbone pattern was carried into the bathrooms, where it was recreated in tile. Throughout the project, lighting played a crucial role in creating warmth and a welcoming, homely atmosphere. The chambre séparée was given a dreamlike touch, featuring a forest-themed wallpaper that paired beautifully with the sky motif preserved on the ceiling—a poetic remnant from the old restaurant. As an added effect, we allowed the sky to be reflected in the table through a mirror surface.
